Resurrection With Gospel Readings, oil on linen, 36" by 48" NFS
RESURRECTION WITH GOSPEL READINGS FOR THE EASTER SEASON
The Lord rises majestically amidst giant white lilies, symbolic of resurrection and purity. The tomb from which he rises is symbolized by a square in what is called “sacred geometry.” It is also the shape of the altar in the church. Within the “tomb” is a cross/keyhole, a passage from death to life and light.
The Gospel readings of the 50 day season are: doubting Thomas; the road to Emmaus where Jesus was not recognized until the breaking of the bread; the Good Shepherd holding a lamb in His arms is enclosed in another sacred geometric shape called a “mandorla” , an ancient symbol of two circles overlapping, the center of which describes heaven and earth intertwined; with Christ as “the way, the truth and the life,” the circle symbolizes His perfection; at the Ascension, 40 days after the Resurrection, Christ was lifted up in the clouds into Heaven, thus making way for the Holy Spirit to come.
The Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, is symbolized by the dove. There are different spiritual gifts from the same Spirit, each given for some benefit, for the bearing of good fruit.
